Kar Sewa is derived from the words kar, means hands or work, and Sewa, means service. The deeper spiritual meaning is "to worship, to adore, to pay homage through the act of love. i.e., God serving God, God loving God". In Gurbani, these two meanings of Sewa (service and worship) have been merged. Sewa is expected to be a labour of love performed without desire or intention, in loving humility. Kar sewa is often translated as "voluntary labour" and considered the most respected method for building our Langar Halls and Gurdwaras.
"Gurudwara", the temple or abode of the Guru, which not only showers on us the messages of the great Gurus and innumerable servicemen and martyrs of the Panth but also quenches our religious and spiritual thirst and makes us full of satisfaction, peace and joy with humility, dedication to the service of mankind. As members of Sikh fraternity, we used to visit the Gurudwaras of Delhi frequently, and on many occasions, selfless devotion and dedication with which the construction work is taken up by the devotees; unmindful of their status, caste and creed, left us wonderstruck.
